Position Overview
General Motors (GM) is seeking a Designer – Human Interface Design (Level 6 Individual Contributor) to support the creation of intuitive, human-centered experiences across vehicles, digital platforms, and design systems. This role sits within GM’s Human Interface Design organization and contributes to the company’s vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
Designers in this role work both independently and collaboratively, applying strong craft skills and sound judgment within established design processes to deliver high-quality digital and physical experiences.
Work Arrangement
This position is categorized as hybrid and aligned to GM hub locations in Warren, MI or Sunnyvale/Mountain View, CA.
- Candidates living within 50 miles of a GM hub are expected to report onsite three times per week (or as determined by the business).
- Candidates living outside the 50-mile radius are still encouraged to apply.
- Remote candidates may be considered depending on role requirements.

Vehicle Experiences
Designs in-vehicle digital ecosystems, including operating systems, cabin interfaces, sound, and motion experiences.
Design Systems & Craft
Shapes GM’s visual identity and advances the GM Design System across vehicle, web, and mobile platforms.
Advanced UX
Explores next-generation vehicle experiences using conceptual design, rapid prototyping, and 3D modeling.
Services & Web Platform
Designs web and app experiences across GM and its brands, connecting users to vehicles and services through intuitive, safe, and engaging digital interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to design initiatives across multiple platforms and product surfaces
- Collaborate with industrial designers, engineers, researchers, product managers, and other design teams
- Apply and extend GM’s design systems to ensure consistency and alignment
- Deliver high-quality interaction, visual, sound, or motion design solutions
- Participate in user-centered design processes, incorporating research and accessibility best practices
- Present design work clearly to peers and cross-functional partners
- Manage multiple priorities and deliver work within established timelines and processes
Required Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience designing digital interfaces for web, mobile, or in-vehicle platforms
- Degree or formal training in Interface Design, Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Strong portfolio demonstrating UX expertise, interaction design, and creative problem-solving
- Experience contributing to digital products and working within established design systems
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in automotive, technology, or design agency environments
- Experience working in agile or lean development environments
- Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design standards
- Experience maintaining consistency across large-scale design systems
- Advanced proficiency in prototyping tools and experience collaborating with software and/or hardware teams
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary Range: USD $83,800 – $127,300 (depending on location, experience, and qualifications)
