The Aprio Nonprofit Consulting Group (NPCG) partners closely with nonprofit leadership teams to deliver business advisory, interim accounting, and financial transformation services tailored to the unique regulatory and operational needs of nonprofit organizations.
Position Overview
Aprio is seeking a Senior Manager, Nonprofit Consulting to join its Nonprofit Consulting Group. This role works closely with NPCG Partners, internal practice teams, and client leadership to plan, lead, and deliver high-impact advisory and interim outsourced accounting engagements.
The position requires strong leadership, analytical thinking, communication, and project management skills, as well as the ability to adapt to diverse nonprofit client environments. The Senior Manager will lead engagements across multiple service areas and serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and boards.

- Finance Department Assessments and Process Improvement
- Audit Facilitation and Accounting Research
- Chart of Accounts Redesign and System Implementation
- Financial Analysis, Policy Evaluation, and Management Collaboration
- Interim Controller and Chief Financial Officer Services
- Single Audit Facilitation, Uniform Guidance Support, and Grants Management
Key Responsibilities
Depending on assigned engagements, responsibilities may include:
- Leading financial assessments and delivering final advisory work products to client sponsors
- Partnering with clients and stakeholders to analyze and redesign charts of accounts
- Coordinating with system implementation partners to ensure successful technology implementations
- Collaborating with executive leadership to enhance financial reporting and board transparency
- Performing advanced financial and data analysis, including pricing analysis and cash flow forecasting
- Identifying and implementing finance process improvements across departments
- Leading annual budgeting and financial projection processes
- Identifying gaps in financial policies and developing tailored policies and procedures
- Coordinating preparation for annual financial statement audits and IRS Form 990 reporting
- Liaising with external auditors on technical accounting matters, with support from internal experts
- Overseeing month-end close and financial reporting processes
- Supporting business development initiatives appropriate to the role level
Qualifications
- 10+ years of accounting experience, including extensive experience with GAAP for nonprofit organizations
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent (CPA preferred)
- Proven ability to independently plan, lead, and manage client engagements, including proposal development and budgeting
- Experience managing engagement teams, monitoring budgets, and ensuring timely delivery of client work
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing deadlines simultaneously
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workloads effectively
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, CRM, development, and ERP systems
- Willingness to work on-site at client locations throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area as needed
Compensation
The stated salary range for this position is $150,000 – $250,000 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors, and may fall outside the listed range in certain circumstances.
