Role Overview
Elevance Health is hiring an AI Platform Engineer to help build, deploy, and operate secure, scalable components of a cloud-based AI platform. This role focuses on developing APIs, distributed data services, and internal tooling that support AI workloads such as search, retrieval, and inference at enterprise scale.
The position blends hands-on engineering with platform reliability, automation, and developer enablement in a modern hybrid work environment.
Work Arrangement
This role follows a hybrid schedule, requiring 1–2 days per week onsite to support collaboration and connectivity. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of a designated office location unless a legal accommodation applies.
Key Responsibilities
The AI Platform Engineer will:
- Design and implement cloud-native services and APIs (REST/gRPC) with secure authentication and authorization (OAuth2/OIDC, key management)
- Build multi-tenant platform capabilities including quotas, rate limiting, and access controls
- Contribute to distributed batch and streaming pipelines for data ingestion, normalization, and feature/vector processing
- Integrate services with model endpoints, vector databases, and metadata/catalog systems while maintaining backward compatibility
- Embed observability by default through logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerts
- Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-incident improvements
- Automate delivery using CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code; support blue/green and canary deployments
- Produce high-quality documentation, SDK examples, and onboarding materials for platform consumers
- Write clean, well-tested code; conduct peer reviews; maintain runbooks and API specifications
- Participate in on-call rotations and proactively improve platform availability, latency, and cost efficiency
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working on platform, multi-database, multi-language, or multi-application systems
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience mentoring engineers, leading small projects, or providing technical troubleshooting support
- Strong understanding of API design (OpenAPI), event-driven architectures, and SQL/NoSQL data stores
- Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, and AI data pipelines
- Hands-on experience with containers, orchestration platforms, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, IAM/secrets, and observability tooling
- Experience with batch and streaming data processing and DAG-based job orchestration frameworks
Compensation
For candidates based in California, Illinois, or Washington, the salary range for this position is:
$110,440 – $180,720 USD
Compensation is determined based on location, experience, education, skills, and business needs. Salary ranges may be adjusted over time, and compensation is not considered earned until vested and paid under applicable company policies.
