Role Overview
Elevance Health is seeking a Senior AI Application Architect to help define and execute enterprise-wide AI architecture strategy. This role is responsible for designing scalable, secure, and compliant AI systems that align with business objectives and future technology roadmaps.
The position combines strategic architecture leadership with hands-on technical exploration, influencing multi-year AI investments and shaping how AI platforms are built, governed, and scaled across the enterprise.
Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid role, requiring onsite presence one day per week to support collaboration, with flexibility for remote work the remainder of the week. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of an approved office location unless an accommodation is granted by law.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior AI Application Architect will:
- Contribute to enterprise-wide AI architecture strategy, defining future-state platforms, patterns, and frameworks
- Lead hands-on proof-of-concept and proof-of-technology initiatives evaluating advanced AI frameworks, LLM platforms, orchestration tools, and retrieval architectures
- Define reusable architecture standards, accelerators, and reference implementations to support engineering adoption
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and provide strategic investment recommendations
- Architect enterprise-scale solutions including RAG pipelines, vector indexing, distributed inference, and model-serving systems
- Align AI architecture decisions across data, cloud, security, and application development teams
- Mentor architects and engineers, fostering innovation and technical excellence
- Participate in executive-level discussions on AI strategy, system evolution, and platform direction
- Ensure AI solutions meet enterprise governance, security, risk, and compliance requirements
- Establish and maintain overall systems architecture vision aligned with enterprise architecture goals
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in architecture or design roles within relevant technology domains
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Expert-level knowledge of AI architecture, LLM systems, MLOps platforms, and distributed model execution
- Hands-on experience designing and prototyping enterprise-scale AI systems
- Deep experience with orchestration frameworks, RAG pipelines, vector databases, and model lifecycle management
- Ability to evaluate and select commercial, open-source, and cloud-native AI platforms
- Proven ability to influence long-term AI investment and architectural direction
- Thought leadership in responsible AI, governance, and enterprise adoption strategies
- Strong interest in emerging technologies and next-generation architecture patterns
Compensation
For candidates based in Hanover, MD or New York, NY, the salary range for this role is:
$131,880 – $226,080 USD
Actual compensation will vary based on location, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Compensation is not considered earned until vested and paid in accordance with company policies.
